Non-Clinical Graduate Certificates

Per the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) essentials for developing competencies within professional nursing practice, the UT College of Nursing offers several non-clinical Graduate Certificate Programs. Program options include Healthcare Informatics, Health Policy, and Nursing Education. Each program provides a unique curriculum that prepares students to excel in their field (as faculty, administrators, managers, researchers, or practitioners) and influence health outcomes in individuals and populations.

Healthcare Informatics

The Healthcare Informatics inter-professional graduate certificate prepares students to gain specialized knowledge related to technology systems and processes along with analyzing and synthesizing patient health data to improve health outcomes.

2024 Program of Study

Health Policy

The Health Policy interdisciplinary graduate certificate is in collaboration with the College of Nursing, Department of Public Health – College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences and the College of Law. This graduate certificate prepares leaders, practitioners, researchers, and educators from law, nursing, public health, and other disciplines to be active in various policymaking activities.

2024 Program of Study

Nursing Education

The Nurse Education graduate certificate prepares nurses for the role as a nurse educator. The Nursing Education Graduate Certificate prepares nurses for a career as a nurse educator in both academic and nursing service settings. Nursing education involves curriculum design and development, resource management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and application of technology, information systems, knowledge, and critical thinking.

ADMISSION

The application deadline for our Non-clinical Graduate Certificates are on a rolling basis, meaning applicants can apply year round. All non-clinical graduate certificate can be a stand-alone graduate certificate or an add on graduate certificate. 

The graduate certificate programs at the College of Nursing use a holistic admissions process in which the applicant’s essay are given priority. These items are used to assess the applicant’s previous educational and work-related accomplishments and their readiness for the certificate program.

Eligibility

Applicants must be admitted to a UT Knoxville graduate program and in good academic standing OR hold a master’s degree or higher.

Application Requirements

All applicants must apply for the certificate by submitting an online application through the Office of Graduate Admissions. A completed application will consist of

  • Official transcripts from all Graduate programs/courses attended. Transcripts must be submitted directly to Graduate Admissions at prior to the application deadline
  • Recommendations from two current or previous faculty or supervisor who can speak to the applicants ability to be successful in the program.
  • Essay addressing College of Nursing essay prompts

PROGRAM FEES
