Biography

Deborah Ailene Kirkland, DrPH, MPH, RN is a postdoctoral health policy research fellow in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Lindley. She received a doctoral degree in public health and a master’s degree in public health, both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Kirkland is a child health policy researcher. Her research focuses on policy interventions that promote quality, accessible care for children and their families in Appalachia.  She is currently researching telehealth policy implications in Appalachian rural areas. Dr. Kirkland has expertise in public health planning and administration in rural community health.
