Biography
April Bryant is a nurse practitioner and academic dedicated to advancing healthcare, especially in rural areas. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2024, with dissertation research focusing on the adolescent pregnancy experience in Rural Appalachia. Her educational history also includes a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University (2012), where she specialized as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Lincoln Memorial University (2002). Additionally, she possesses a Diploma in Practical Nursing from the Tennessee College of Applied Science (1997).
Bryant possesses extensive clinical and teaching experience. Since July 2016, she has served as Clinical Faculty at the University of Tennessee, where she coordinates large courses, develops didactic content, and delivers lectures. She actively participates in developing and facilitating clinical simulations and providing hospital clinical instruction. Additionally, she continues her work as a nurse practitioner, offering holistic care to patients in rural Appalachia throughout their lifespan at a free healthcare clinic.
Her research interest focuses on healthcare disparities in rural Appalachia, aiming to improve access to quality care for underserved populations. Her career embodies dedication and an unwavering commitment to nursing education, patient care, and tackling health inequities in rural Appalachian communities.
