Financial Aid and Scholarship

We encourage all students to carefully plan for any needed financial assistance and explore all scholarship opportunities to help pay for your nursing education.

UNDERGRADUATE NURSING FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Students applying for need-based scholarships are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Federal School Code for UTK is 003530. More information about completing the FAFSA can be obtained through OneStop.

Freshman Nursing Students

While the College of Nursing does not offer scholarships to first-year students the University offers competitive scholarships. To learn more about Entering Freshman scholarship opportunities visit the OneStop website or reach out to OneStop directly at 865-974-1111.

Continuing Undergraduate Nursing Students

The Continuing Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship Application will open in January. This application applies to students in the traditional BSN program. To apply for College of Nursing scholarships, continuing undergraduate students must complete the online College of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarship Application. This application is available through OneStop and is due by March 1. Applications will not be reviewed for consideration after March 1.

Newly Admitted ABSN, RN to BSN or Change of Major Students

This section applies to:

  • Newly Admitted ABSN students
  • Newly Admitted RN to BSN students
  • Change of major students

To apply for College of Nursing scholarships, students must complete the following online application: College of Nursing Undergraduate Scholarship Application.

All applications for the students listed above must be received by March 1. Applications received after March 1 will not be considered.

BSN Scholars Program

Students in the BSN Scholars Program are awarded a minimum of $17,000 in tuition assistance from UTMC with a three-year work commitment post-graduation. For more information on this program reach out to our prospective student team at [email protected] or visit our BSN Scholars page.

ABSN Scholars Program

Students in the ABSN Scholars Program are awarded $12,776 scholarship tuition from UT and UTMC with a three-year work commitment post-graduation. For more information on this program, reach out to our scholarship team at [email protected]

PhD Research Award Opportunities

If you would like to be considered for the Martha E. Rogers Memorial Dissertation Research Award or the Sandra P. Thomas PhD Research Award, complete this application by March 1. Applications will be reviewed by the College of Nursing PhD Program Committee as appointed by the dean of the college. Honorees will be notified before May 1. Awards will be presented to honorees at the annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet in August. Please direct any questions to [email protected].

Mary E. Gunther PhD Scholarship

The Mary E. Gunther Scholarship provides $10,000 for the first year of PhD study, renewable in subsequent years if satisfactory progress is being made. Please direct any questions to [email protected].

Graduate Teaching Assistant 

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) opportunities are based on availability and the needs to the college. For more information about these positions, students can reach out to the College of Nursing’s Academic Affairs Office at [email protected].  

Graduate Research Assistant  

Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) opportunities are based on the needs of the College faculty. These opportunities are communicated to students via Canvas when available.  

Assistantships are also offered through many departments and colleges on the Knoxville campus, such as advising centers, admission offices, residence halls, and other service offices.

The Graduate School works with these offices to post announcements for these positions.
