Jim Alberding, associate program director of the CRNA program and clinical associate professor, was selected as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (FAANA). Earning the designation of FAANA is a major career achievement for CRNAs.
Acceptance criteria include professional achievements that demonstrate impactful contributions to promoting and advancing nurse anesthesiology in the following areas: clinical practice, education, research, professional advocacy, and meeting the high standards of the AANA.
Since joining the college in 2019, he has served two terms Faculty Affairs Chairperson, College Assembly Chairperson, served on multiple leadership search committees, and as an Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator.
Alberding is also the immediate past president of the Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetists, representing 2400 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. He is also the recipient of the 2021 AACN Novice Faculty Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award and the UTHSC 2022 Most Outstanding Recent Alumnus.
“I am the product of incredible mentorship and the selfless acts of others,” shared Alberding. “Advocacy, engagement, and mentorship must be taught and fostered. Like the old proverb says, “…teach a person to fish, and you feed that person for a lifetime.” As an educator, he strives to provide his students that same mentorship and encouragement.
Alberding was inducted during a ceremony on August 3 in San Diego.
