Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must meet the eligibility requirements listed. Additional eligibility requirements for the Acute Care Pediatric Graduate Certificate can be found below. 

Minimum Requirements for All Applicants  

• Hold current national certification in a specified APRN population focus. 
• Hold a master’s degree (MSN or MS) in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) or the Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE). 
• Completed the prerequisite courses (advanced pathophysiology, advanced physical assessment, and advanced pharmacology) within the past five years. Students who need to complete prerequisites are welcome to complete them at UT. Learn more about our Prerequisite courses here.  
• Must not live in California 

Acute Care Pediatric Graduate Certificate 

In addition to the minimum certificate eligibility requirements, an eligible Acute Care Pediatric applicant must be a certified primary care pediatric nurse practitioner. 

Important note: Post-graduate certificate students must demonstrate the same national advanced nursing practice concentration competencies required of all students in the nurse practitioner tracks at the degree-granting academic institution. An extensive gap analysis of previous coursework will be conducted to determine if additional courses are required to meet the competencies and program outcomes. The gap analysis will consist of a thorough review of documents, such as previous transcripts, course objectives, syllabi, and documentation of supervised clinical hours. 

Deadlines

The Graduate Certificate Programs at the College of Nursing uses a holistic admissions process in which the applicant’s essay is given priority. The essay is used to assess the applicant’s previous educational and work-related accomplishments and their readiness for the certificate program.

Application Requirements 

All applicants must have the application materials listed below. A completed application will consist of:

• Official transcripts from all Graduate programs and courses attended. Transcripts must be submitted directly to Graduate Admissions at prior to the application deadline 
• RN license in the state in which you intend to complete clinicals 
• APRN license in the state of residency and clinical placement. 
• Essay addressing College of Nursing essay prompts 
• Recommendations from two previous nursing faculty, supervisors, or health care providers with a master’s degree or higher.

Application Process 

All prospective College of Nursing applicants must apply online through UT Graduate Admissions and pay the application fee.  Application materials must be submitted directly to Graduate Admissions prior to the application deadline.

  While you can submit an application without your required materials, your application will not be considered until all materials have been received.  
  
  It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure their application is complete. Applicants are strongly encouraged to check first with Graduate Admissions to see if all transcripts and materials have been submitted properly. Applicants can check the status of their application via the UT Graduate School Status Checker. 

Admission Timeline

All applications are typically notified of their admission decision around the second week of December. Notifications are sent by email.

After Admission

Incoming graduate students are required to attend the on-campus Clinical Intensives throughout their time in the program. More details on the onboarding procedures will be provided to students with their college of nursing admission letter.
