- If you must cancel or reschedule, please call in advance so that someone else may have your time slot.
- Never schedule an appointment during a class or lab time.
- Come to your appointment on time and prepared.
- Write down questions
- Review curriculum and acadmeic plan
- Bring appropriate materials (pen/pencil,catalog, etc.)
Prospective change of major students are encouraged to schedule an advising appointment with the College of Nursing to discuss degree requirements, academic planning and the admissions process. However, students who are not declared nursing majors cannot be cleared for registration by nursing advisors. Students will continue to work with their current college advisors until officially accepted to the nursing program through the application process.
We also offer individual appointments for prospective students and their families. Advisors in the College of Nursing are available to provide information about the admissions process and overview the many opportunities available to students in the nursing major. To schedule an appointment, please call our Student Services Office at least two weeks in advance.
Academic advising is a shared responsibility with students and advisors working together to develop and enhance educational plans and to promote academic success toward the realization of your goals. However, the student, not the advisor, bears the ultimate responsibility for selecting courses, meeting course prerequisites, and adhering to policies and procedures.
UT Academic Advising Policy
The University of Tennessee recognizes academic advising to be a critical component of the educational experience and student success. All undergraduate students are required to meet with an academic advisor in the fall and spring semesters. After accruing 30 hours at UT Knoxville, students may meet with an advisor once a year. Students whose ID ends with an even number (including zero) are advised in Fall, and students whose ID ends with an odd number are advised in Spring.
